I wanted generic suburban Chinese takeout but it would of been good of me to cook so I cooked this.

Takeout Beef & Broccoli

Prep Time: 30 minutes

Cook Time: 5 minutes

Total Time: 35 minutes

Yield: 1 serving

Takeout Beef & Broccoli

Chinese takeout beef & broccoli.

Ingredients

  • 4 oz beef steak (or pretty much whatever protein), sliced into strips
  • 1 c broccoli florets
  • 1 tbsp mirin (or white wine)
  • 1 tbsp tamari (or soy sauce)
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • Pinch of potato starch (or corn starch)
  • 1 tbsp ginger, minced
  • 1 tbsp garlic, minced
  • 2 small jalapenos, sliced (or red chiles)
  • 1 small shallot, diced
  • 1 scallion, white part & green part, sliced
  • White rice
  • Neutral oil or frying

Instructions

  1. Combine oyster sauce, tamari, mirin & sesame oil. Add in half each of the ginger, garlic & jalapenos. Add in white part of the shallot. Marinate beef for ~30 min.
  2. Add oil to hot pan. Add remaining ginger, garlic & jalapenos.
  3. Fry broccoli briefly. Remove from heat.
  4. Add marinated beef to pan. Cook through, then add in additional marinade plus starch to thicken slightly.
  5. Turn off heat and toss with broccoli.
  6. Serve with rice. Garnish with scallion.
  7. Enjoy.
