Peach Sticky Rice with AITA Snap

Peach Sticky Rice with AITA Snap

So, I had another busy week which left me without much time to cook. With that in mind, I tried to come up with something quick & simple, ideally with minimal clean-up. What might fulfill these qualifications? A variation on Thai mango sticky rice, cooked entirely in the rice cooker.

Although I had mangoes on hand, I opted to make the dish with peaches, because they are in season. Since peaches go wonderfully with the flavors in Art in the Age‘s Snap liquor, that was incorporated as well. The following instructions are optimized for a rice cooker, but if you do not own one: (a) get one immediately, you will thank me later & (b) it can be easily adapted for the stove.

Mushrooms on Toast

Mushrooms on Toast

A few months back I had the wonderful experience of dining at Sycamore in Lansdowne.  I was thoroughly impressed by the tasting menu and I think that the chef, Sam Jacobson is truly inspired.  Apparently, I’m not the only one who shares this opinion.  Recently, my trip to the famer’s market yielded a number of wonderful items, specifically, mixed mushrooms.  Immediately, I thought of something that I had at Sycamore and decided to try my hand at it.  This recipe, which I’m sure is wildly different is my take on a dish that just blew my mind.

Ribeye with Cilantro Lime Butter

Ribeye with Cilantro Lime Butter

Sometimes all I really want in the world is a really great steak.  There is something satisfying and incredible about a good quality cut of meat cooked just right.  Recently, when I had this craving,  I realized that a side dish would actually detract from my experience.  I never want to feel too full after a meal.  Being cognoscente about this, I decided to omit the side and save the calories for a nice glass or two of red wine.  When grilling, make sure to use high heat and if you want to get fancy, do quarter turns on your steak to achieve the criss-cross gill marks.

Four Pepper Salsa

Four Pepper Salsa

Cravings, we all get them.  They are a natural part of being human.  People crave all sorts of things.  The other day, I had a craving for salsa, specifically fresh salsa.  Sure, I could have just went and purchased one from a jar and I might have been satisfied, but what’s the fun in that?  It’s summer and everything is fresh.  With my trusty food processor, I was able to get this salsa ready really quickly and there was definitely a great payoff.  This recipe makes a large quantity so scale down as appropriate.

Inspiration – Headhouse Square Farmer’s Market

Inspiration – Headhouse Square Farmer’s Market

This was my first trip to the Headhouse Square Farmer’s Market.  I live relatively close but I’m always busy on Saturday and Sunday mornings.  I’m so glad I made it down here.  I took some photos to document the experience.  The quality of products I saw here and for the price point were pretty amazing.  I’ll definitely be returning here.
